One-on-one instruction to focus on your specific goals

Private Lessons have the greatest flexibility in working with you on your specific goals while keeping you involved in the training every step of the way. Your trainer will work with you one-on-one, coaching you on how to train your dog.

Lessons are a popular choice for owners who:

  • Have a dog with mild to moderate behavioral issues, or that isn’t suited to a group class setting for any reason

  • Have different training goals than what our standard group classes offer

  • Need a more flexible schedule than the group classes offer

  • Are looking for one-on-one training for any reason

  • Want training in their own home

Lesson Packages:

$675

Consultation + Package of 6 Lessons (Most Frequently Recommended)

A 1-hour Consultation, followed by six, 1-hour long lessons. Appointments are typically scheduled once per week.

The package of 6 lessons is almost always our recommended starting point for private lessons. It is ideal for owners who have a few different training goals, want a good foundation in reliable obedience training, or who are wanting to address a more complex behavior issue such as leash reactivity, anxiety, etc.

Private lessons may not be appropriate for some aggression cases. If you aren’t sure whether lessons or a board and train would be appropriate, fill out our New Client Contact Form to get in touch with us about what program might be best for you and your dog. You can also use our New Client Contact Form to reach out to get signed up for lessons.

$425

Consultation + Package of 3 Lessons

A 1-hour Consultation, followed by three, 1-hour long lessons. Appointments are typically scheduled once per week.

The package of 3 lessons is only available to owners who want to dive in to address a single, specific, and relatively minor training issue. Examples could include: leash manners, jumping on people, or teaching the place command. It can be a more time efficient way to address single training goals than classes or longer packages.

If you are interested in scheduling a package of 3, fill out our New Client Contact Form to get in touch with us to see if your training goals might be appropriate for a 3-Lesson Package.

$450

Puppy Lesson Package (Recommended for puppies 5 months and under)

Six, 45-minute long lessons. (This package does not include a consultation.) This lesson package is available for puppies 5 months old and under. It provides a great alternative to puppy class if puppy class if full, or if your schedule doesn’t fit the class schedule, or if you decide for any other reason that one-on-one training or in-home training is more beneficial for you or your pup. The Puppy Lesson Package loosely follows the general S.T.A.R. Puppy Class curriculum. Completion of the Puppy Lesson Package makes your pup eligible to be tested for the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Award.

$1,000

Consultation + Package of 10 Lessons

A 1-hour Consultation, followed by ten, 1-hour long lessons. Appointments are typically scheduled once per week.

This package gives you the best value for private lessons. While it is more lessons than is usually required for basic obedience and manners, this package is recommended for owners pursing private lessons (or a combination of private lessons and day training) to address behavioral issues such as aggression, reactivity, extreme fear/anxiety, etc.

In-Home Training

$2/mile Travel Fee

Private lessons can be held in your home, if you are within reasonable distance of our training facility. Some dogs (and owners) benefit from doing training in their home environment, especially the dog is struggling with behaviors specifically connected to the home environment. Typically, we recommend starting lessons at our training center to lay a foundation in a neutral environment, and then taking it back into the home.

Travel fees are charged per lesson, and are calculated by miles away from our training center (one-way).

Please note that all consultations are held at the training facility.

Additional Lesson Package Payment Information:

Deposit - Private Lesson packages book in advance, and require a $125 deposit at the time of booking. Your deposit covers the cost of your Consultation or first appointment, and holds your spot in our schedule. Full payment for your lesson package is then due at the end of your Consultation.

Private Lesson Cancellation Policy: Your $125 deposit is non-refundable. If you need to reschedule your entire lesson package, it must be rescheduled with at least a week’s advance notice. (Full packages rescheduled within a week of our scheduled start date will result in your deposit becoming non-refundable and non-transferable to the rescheduled lesson package.) A limited number of individual appointments can be rescheduled per package. (1 reschedule allowed for Package of 3; 2 reschedules allowed for Package of 6; 4 reschedules allowed for Package of 10.) 24 hours advance notice is required to reschedule appointments. If appointments are cancelled within 24 hours, or if the maximum number of reschedules have already been met, then the appointment cannot be rescheduled/refunded. All lessons in the package must be used within a year of the start date of the lesson package. (Some exceptions may apply for emergencies or extenuating circumstances.)

Training Tools - Private Lesson pricing does not include training tools. Each dog is different, and we will not have a definite idea of which tools will work best for your dog until we start working with him. Examples of training tools we may choose to use include: slip leads, prong collars, head halters, muzzles, and e-collars. If your goals include off leash reliable obedience, we will definitely recommend a high quality e-collar, so please budget about $200-$300 for training tools. If you have any questions about tools that we typically recommend for your training goals, please contact us!

Additional Follow-Up:

$90

Individual Follow-Up Lessons (1 hour)

Once you have completed either a private lesson package or a board and train program with us, the option to sign up for single private lessons at a lower rate becomes available.

Dog training is an ongoing process. You can reach your goals, and even surpass them, but then the training must be maintained. Follow-up lessons allow you to maintain your dog’s training with our continued guidance, troubleshoot any issues that arise while you continue training after your initial program, or pursue additional training goals that weren’t the focus of your initial training program.

Follow-Up Lessons are also available in 45-minute lessons ($70) and 30-minute lessons ($50)

Class Supplements:

$50

Class Make-Up Lesson (30 minutes)

Many of our group classes, especially our Dogmanship and S.T.A.R. Puppy classes, build on each other week by week in order to cover, one step at a time, the essential pieces of training process. Missing a week of class, while sometimes unavoidable, can mean missing vital pieces of the process. If you have to miss a week of class, we recommend making up the class with a short private lesson. Ideally, we will try to schedule the make-up lesson within the week of the missed class, so you can stay on track with the class. Please let us know as soon as you know that you will have to miss a class.
